Introducing: 8 Asians

I’ll post about my adventures in Canada soon enough, but first I wanted to talk about a side project that I’ve been working with a couple of people - 8 Asians.

8 Asians is a collaborative blog of eight different people of Asian decent. We’ll be posting about whatever Asian issues are currently relevant in our lives, whether it be pop culture or current events or politics. Think “The View,” with Star Jones and Rosie O’Donnell and that chick from Survivor. Now, replace them all with Asian-Americans and Asian-Canadians. Yeah.

My role in this weblog is one part editor, one part blogger, one part casting director because I’m trying to cast a bunch of different writers. Some of the writers are relatively familiar, while others are first-time bloggers. That’s on purpose. Admittedly, the blog is pretty rough both in terms of design and process, and I’m doing this in my free time when I’m not working at the start-up, but it’s something to pass the time, I suppose. (And, if you’re a writer interested in writing about Asian-American issues that might want to be on the blog at a later time, let me know.)

Cool.

It will be interesting to begin reading this from, well, the beginning. As one who is not particularly fond of the View, I hope that you may be a little more interesting (or at least nice).

This is exciting Ernie. I’ve started blogging in ‘01 but shifted gears and put that on hold to finish post grad work then restarted blogging recently. I could relate to the Asian perspective being Asian-Canadian myself and would be looking forward to many postings on both 8Asians and on your blog…

Asian decent? Well, you’re certainly asian, but the decent part seems questionable.

If “8 Asians” replaced “The View” as morning TV, I would *so* watch it. Seriously. “The View” has improved slightly when Rosie took Star Jones’ place, but I still can’t stand the general hen-partiness/white suburban housewife-esqueness of it all. [And I’m a white woman. Maybe it’s because I’m a lesbian.]

8 Asian-descended folks, chatting about Asian culture and issues, *now* that’s TV!

I’m glad there’s a site like 8 Asians around! Loves it!

I love it. Mike’s recent articles are very entertaining and informed. Of course, I’m interested in being the token hapa if you are looking for future writers.
