A Phone Conversation at Work

Dan: Hey, everything ok? You just stopped writing on your weblog. No explanation.
Ernie: Yeah, everything is cool, I guess. I’ve got some pretty big family drama going on, and that sucks up my personal energy. A lot of it. Then I work all day.
Dan: Aaaah.
Ernie: I’m in a routine now. I work, I go home, I work on BDB and my projects. It’s keeping me sane. It’s also keeping me numb. And when you’re numb all day, you don’t really have a chance to be witty and funny and notice the stuff around you. It’s kind of like being shell-shocked, except there’s nothing to be shell-shocked about.
Dan:
Ernie: This is how I cope. Some people break dishes, some people drink to oblivion. Me, I tune out. It’s nothing personal, really. But right now, in this moment of time, it works for me.
Dan: You’ll be okay.
Ernie: … yeah, I will. Thanks.

(Ten minutes later)

Dan: Come to Orlando.
Ernie: Eh, I dunno.
Dan: Seriously, visit me and the wife in Orlando.
Ernie: Well, you know… Gay Days at Disneyworld is coming up. I could always crash at your house and — hey, you and Tania could come to Disneyworld with me. You could look at all the muscle queens trying to hit on Mickey Mouse. It’ll be great! Whadd’ya say?
Dan:
Ernie:
Dan: Come to Orlando.
Ernie: Ha! Didn’t think so.

And now, you know.
