BE A CONTESTANT IN ERNIE’S AS YET UNTITLED, BUT OBVIOUSLY BASED ON THE APPRENTICE WEBGAME!

WHO: Me, Ernie, the guy behind littleyellowdifferent.com. Basically, after four years, I need a break from weblogging. And after a couple of Bloggies, some magazine articles and countless weblog posts slandering my parents, who doesn’t need a break, right? So I’ll need someone to take over my weblog while I go on a hiatus for an indeterminable amount of time. (NOTE: That probably means a week or two.)

And that’s where you come in.

WHAT: That’s right, take over my weblog. I’m sick of it. Well, okay. Not sick of it, but I am nervous having, say, my father translating weblog posts to my mother and getting frantic phone calls in the middle of the night. Or having bosses two or three levels up walking in my cubicle, casually breaking the ice with, “so, you used to make gay porn sites, huh?

Along with taking over LYD for an indeterminable amount of time (and possibly guest-blogging later), you’ll win a bunch of money, some hits to your livejournal, maybe an extra prize or two. And the top four finishers receive gmail.com accounts. (Yes co-workers, I realize the irony. Hey, people want ‘em.)

WHERE: (Where? This isn’t BlindDateBlog.)

WHEN: The application process starts NOW and lasts for two weeks, September 6th. After that time, I’ll narrow the field and send a more serious application for my final twelve contestants. Expect the game to start a week after that and for it to go on for two months or so.

HOW: Send an e-mail to webgame@littleyellowdifferent.com. In there, include:

  • your name
  • your age / place of residence
  • your website, if you have one
  • why I should cast you in this webgame over the hundreds dozens dozen other applicants? (no, seriously. One line sentences like “cast me cuz i’m too cool for school!!!” gets you publically humiliated.)

Game on!

Will you continue doing the miniblog, or will you be out completely?

Ernie:
don’t do it!

You are only feeling this way because someone has cut the top off your head, so you are even less protected than even most of us who eschew the use of non-tinfoil hats.

If some kind soul manages to photoshop you back into the realms of the non-cranial impaired, I’m sure you will feel much better and will reconsider this decision.

Please tell me that image in the banner at the top of the page is not the result of some unfortunate experiment with power tools.

*sigh* first Rance decides he’s had enough and wants to find a replacement, then Ernie does the same. it’s rather depressing if you ask me. :(

Could this spell the end of blogging forever? All my favorites are quitting, hanging up their keyboards. A shame, a real shame.

Ernie, it’s better to burn out than to fade away! Don’t do this wacky, hubristic (I looked it up) guest blog thing. Just throw in the towel and go back to telling your witty anecdotes to real friends in real time. For real.

Mes deux centimes.

Sorry, Ernie, this won’t work. Remember that movie “Boogie Nights”, where porn star Dirk Diggler got replaced by that shallow poseur, Johnny Doe? We knew it, Dirk knew it, Burt Reynolds knew it: It just wasn’t the same.

And so in a few months, Ernie will just be sitting in some surf punk’s truck outside some dark and lonely San Fernando Valley strip mall, doing God knows what.

Don’t do it, Ernie!!

Hmm… has anybody answered along the lines of, “Well, Ernie, I’m glad you asked. I’m a big fan of ire. Disappointing people in general is one of my favorite hobbies. What better way to achieve that than to replace your writing with mine, thereby ticking off at least some of your web audience? Also, by not meeting people’s expectations, I can almost guarantee they won’t recognize my writing talent.”

Sorry, I got carried away. Too cynical? Maybe. I didn’t mean it to be. It’s been a long week. On a more serious note, it’s a fine idea, but keep in mind that people come here because they like to hear from you. However, that doesn’t mean you owe them anything, so take the time off that you need.

[Note to self:
Don't apply for Ernie's latest web game, after all, because it'll make everyone hate on you instead of being the awesome promotional tool for your book that you'd first mistakenly mistook it for.]

The Story of my Life

I can safely say that I have successfully deterred all of my fans away from everybodyisawhiteboy by not only not posting ever, but also by creating a side site designed for me to post crappy weblog entries that aren’t…

Ernie–

Could you have someone who KNOWS you take over for awhile? THAT way, we still get the Ernie scoop…just from a different perspective. And you get a break.

Asking your parents to blog in your absence is probably not a good idea. But it would be completely interesting.
