A weblog by Ernie Hsiung

I recently did an interview with Dan Benjamin for his Hivelogic Radio show. It’s now online.

Some notes:

  • For the majority of his podcast shows, Dan usually interviews experts in technical fields: OS Software Experts, Ruby on Rails Programmers, lecturers of the Agile Programming environment. Then he decided to interview me. I don’t know why, but hell, I’ll roll with it.
  • I’m not really liking the sound of my voice in this interview; I sound “hella gay” (to quote my college friends), the sound of my laugh annoys me, and you can easily tell I’m in an anxiety-prone situation because I do start talking really fast. Really, I’m only blogging this for two reasons: Because Dan wants me to, and because in five to ten years, when I’m on my cocktail of sedatives and anti-anxiety medications, I’ll be able to look back and say to myself, “Christ, did I ever sound like that?”

(Oh yeah – I’ll also be in Vancouver for the next two weeks; if you’re in the area and want to hang out, drop me an e-mail to ernie AT this domain address.)

Your voice always sounds nice to me! :)

And I won’t be in Vancouver, but tell me when you’re coming to New York!

  2. God, you have a great laugh. This was fun to listen to :)

Very interesting to listen to yr voice. I enjoy the sincerity which comes through. Pleasant to listen to too. Strange to compare what I interpret as a naive quality in yr voice with the sophistication of yr writing . :)

I adore you(r blog), Ernie, and getting to hear you in addition to reading you is marvelous.

  5. Connerkent says:

    I love your chuckles. :)

… and I loOoove your stereotypical gay voice. ;)

  6. Jake says:

I got a kick out of it.

This is the second time I’ve heard your voice (I completely forget what the first was, though).
It’s kind of funny, but your real voice is nothing like the voice I “hear” when I read your blog. Once I do hear your real voice, though, it fits perfectly. ;)

    And holy omg sloooow dooooown!

I second Connerkent and Jakes comments.

I’m a random reader from years ago. Your blog was the first blog I ever read.

    You are too damn cute.

I listened and laughed (with you of course) through the whole thing.

Question- Have you ever taken a poll of your demographic? What exactly do they want to know?

Single, female, likes to game, psuedo-geek ?

Is there a scientific study into why gay men sound more gay through sound output devices?

i stumbled across your site around 4 years ago whilst browsing the internet at work (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YYgtUvgYi8U) and every 3-4 months i like to come back and catch up on all the stuff you talk about/the links you give/photos etc. so the next time someone asks you ‘who reads your blog’ you can tell them, there’s even this 23 year old chick in greece who reads my stuff.
    take care of yourself xx

You sound different from what I remembered from hanging out in l.a. Maybe it’s the hollow sound from the room? Then again, it’s been awhile :)
