Christmas w/ Mom, Part 1

(A low-key Christmas lunch with my mom. As always, italics means dialogue spoken in Mandarin.)

Ernie: Ma, I got you a present. Open it.
Mom: Oooh, a crystal clock thing! I can tell you spent a lot of money on it, because the clock is gold-plated and the box is fancy and it’s packed in a lot of sponges. Here, I got you something too.

So Mom runs into the kitchen and hands me…

Ernie: …a box of green tea. You’re giving me a box of green tea for Christmas.
Mom: Ai-ya! Do you know difficult it was to find green tea? They ran out at the Ranch 99 and then I went to Lion’s Market, and they ran out of it there too! What kind of Asian supermarkets don’t have green tea? Finally, I went to Marina Foods and they had it on sale. You need to drink more tea, it’s good for you. DRINK MORE TEA, GOOD FOR YOU!!!
Ernie: Thanks, mom.

that’s what I thought when I saw clock. I thought that meant you wanted to count down till her death.
