Co-workers + Giant SUVs = Hilarity

So, I have this co-worker, Sanjay. He’s an engineer who arrived to the United States from India around a year or so ago, and this Christmas, his wife and baby arrived as well. He’s really smart and a little on the introverted side, but for only being here for such a short amount of time, some co-workers and I have been throwing massive amounts of American culture his way, like when I took him to the Castro for Halloween.

And he’s adapting. Too well, if you ask me. So, I’m getting a ride with him for a meeting at a co-workers house…

Co-worker: Ernie, have you seen my new car?
Ernie: … you have a drivers license?
Co-worker: Yes! Very recently. A week or two ago, perhaps.

We walk over to a GIANT, FIRE RED Ford Explorer sitting in a parking space marked “compact.” I’ve lived in apartments smaller than this vehicle. My co-worker is 5′6″. He opens the massive door and climbs into the vehicle. If Clifford the Dog went nuts and swallowed a man whole, that’s what Sanjay looked like in his car.

Ernie: This is your car?
Co-worker: Yes. I bought it last week. Do you like it?
Ernie: It’s very big. It’s also a little warm in here… can you unlock the car windows so I can roll them down?
Co-worker: … uhhh… I don’t know how to.
Ernie: You… don’t know… how to.
Co-worker: I will soon. It took me a while to find the rear wipers. I found the switch yesterday.

Next week, tune in when Sanjay discovers other joys about suburban life. Wacky!
