ernie’s weekend (part 3 of 3)
(The setting: Peoples Park, home of a supposedly right-wing demonstration celebrating the “Bay Area Patriots Association.” I’m there with the Guerrilla Queer Bar, most of whom are dressed in red, white and blue. I think we’re out there to heckle the group, but I’m not sure. There’s a crazy marching band freaking Min Jung and a fat, naked Elvis. And there’s angry, angry drugged-out hippies screaming at all of them. And us. And each other.)
Ernie: Okay, so let me get this straight. Guerilla Queer bar is a gay group, but most of us are dressed up in patriotic colors.
Paris: Right.
Ernie: But this is a right-wing rally. But I think it’s really a left-wing rally trying to be a right-wing rally. So are the homosexuals dressed in red, white and blue mocking this rally? Or supporting it? I’m so confused.
Angry Punk Girl Who Overheard Conversation: DON’T YOU FUCKING UNDERSTAND? UGH, FUCKING IMBECILE! IT’S A STATEMENT SAYING THAT LEFT-WINGERS CAN BE ZEALOTS AS MUCH AS RIGHT-WINGER PIGS! DON’T THEY UNDERSTAND THAT THIS IS HOW WE MAKE OUR VOICES HEARD, AND THEY’RE MOCKING US?! ARRRGH! *storms off*
Ernie and Paris: …
Ernie: Daddy, I’m scared.
Paris: It’s okay, baby. I’m scared too.
Although it turns out that Angry Punk Girl was right after all. It was all a hoax.
