Nik and Vicki

Nik and Vicki,
originally uploaded by ernie.

So almost exactly a year ago, I blogged about how my friends Nik, Vicki and I had a chance to be extras in a gay indie film.

Well, Todd’s movie Coffee is out now and it’s making the rounds on the gay film festival circuit. If you should find yourself in Austin or Tampa, check it out. But if you watch the film to find my cameo, prepared to be, uhm, disappointed.

(Flashback to one year ago, on a soundstage.)

Todd: OK, Ernie, I need you to sit on this sofa that faces away from the camera, and cross your right leg. Oh yeah, and take a bite out of this chocolate chip cookie and put it on a table, that’ll be a good shot.
Ernie: Sure.
Todd: And… cut!
Ernie: Uhm. You just got a shot of my knee.
Todd: No, not just your knee, I got a great shot of the cookie that you took a bite out of. NEXT SCENE!! Now Vicki and Nik, do you guys wanna be superstars?
Ernie: Hey wait…
Todds fabulous producer friend: Sweetie, can you do us a huge favor and make a run to Whole Foods? We need a 64-pack of bottled water.
Ernie: Uhm…
Todd: (calls out as Ernie leaves) Oh, and be sure to create my website! I’ll send you a knee picture when it comes out!
Ernie: (I so got shafted in this deal.)

(Note: In defense of Todd, this coversation is exaggerated – nonetheless, a half-bitten cookie and my leg is the only evidence that I was in his film. You should go see it anyway.)

you really ought to e-mail IMDB and demand a credit listing as “Man with Cookie”. I had my heart set on reading that when I pulled it up.. http://imdb.com/title/tt0421122/fullcredits

“In defense of Todd, this coversation is exaggerated…”

I am shocked and appalled. You never do that.

That’s a great cameo pic, I love it. They actually look convincing. I would like to request the pic of your knee and you biting a cookie.

But, Ernie, you’re already a superstar!

  8. Todd says:

FYI, the film is screening in the shorts program ‘Worried Straight Men’ on Saturday September 4th at 5PM at AGLIFF.

I hope your knee doesn’t start to think its better then the rest of your body. If it starts asking for exotic knee rubs and specific brands of bottled water to bathe in, remind the knee that it hasn’t had any other big knee roles.

You do get your props, Ernie:

Coffeeshop Patrons – Ernie Hsiung, Nik Hua, Vicki Ho, Christopher Kuefler, Ted Kozlowski

It wasn’t your knee that got small, it’s the pictures that got small…

The thought of seeing your knee and a cookie that you ate almost makes me want to drive to Austin to see the movie. Could someone pause the movie and take a photo for me? And is the cookie big and pink? (COOKIE. I said COOKIE.)

  13. vj says:

The cookie is chocolate chip from what i could see. *cough*

Ern, you were wearing those same shorts and shoes when I visited you back in July. Is that all you own? ;)

  14. troy says:

I reviewed this one for the film festival i work for. Very funny! ;)

  15. Todd says:

FYI, The screening in Austin went great. The audience really seemed to enjoy it, and gave it a big round of applause at the end. My sister turned to me at the end of the program and told me she liked mine the best out of all the shorts. Next stop, Tampa! Oh, and Troy, tell them to program the film!
