I am a gamer, and thus, a demographic
I don’t have cable television, so I’ve never really had the opportunity to check out G4TV, the 24-hour cable channel on video games, until a couple of weeks ago at my friend Chris’ house. I’m a video game junkie, so this pleases me — it’s enough for me to seriously re-consider getting cable. Not to say I don’t have some gripes about the channel, though. Take the hosts, for example:
(The scene: Ernie and an anonymous friend are watching Filter, with Diane Mizota)
Friend: Dude, this is my FAVORITE show. This chick is HOT. HOT!!!!!!!!!!!! [Ed: notice my usage of 12 explanation points. This is on purpose.]
Ernie: What? This girl is a crappy host. She’s reading off of cue cards! You can see her eyes moving.
F: SHE’S A HOT GIRL TALKING ABOUT VIDEO GAMES!
E: Dude, Look at her. She has never touched a video game in her life! She’s talking about Silent Hill on camera and in her head, she probably thinks that she’s talking about how Sisqo lost his voice. [Ed: if any gay men even remotely understood that joke, much less laughed to it, e-mail me. I want to be your boyfriend.]
F: You’re just saying that cuz you’re GAY.
E: Damn right I am!(awkward silence)
F: Hey, a Pringles commercial.
E: I like Pringles.
And look, Penny-Arcade agrees with me. At least G4 has some funny commercials, though. (If anyone has the G4 commercial of the Cheerleader’s Ode to Street Fighter, e-mail me.)
