oh, how i wish i stumbled on this ten years ago

Another reason why YouTube rocks: only now have I stumbled upon videos of M.U.G.E.N, a video game engine that “allows for anyone to create characters, stages and other game objects through interpreted text files and graphics and sound compilations and it also supports various types of audio formats such as MP3, ADX, OGG and MIDI as background music during gameplay.”

In other words, you can import any video game character or stage into your own special fight game. Oh, how I wish I were still decent at fighting games. This can lead to some very awesome combinations:

And some… uhm… not so great ones.

(Note: You should REALLY wait until the 30 second mark, because the song HAS LYRICS. It’s so awful that I’ve now played this video twelve times in a row.)

I think I just had a pixelgasm. I don’t know if I’m disappointed or relieved that I barely recognized a tenth of the characters in that first one.

That second one is awfulesome to the nth degree. Truly a thing of terrible beauty.

The 2nd one sounds like the guy from Pure Pwnage.

I really liked the super-dramatic effects in the first video, though. Like when the school girl poses for brief polaroids as part of her attack. Genius stuff.

I had a seizure from the first one, but the second one was pure unadulterated bliss. I’m going to be singing that song in my head for the rest of the day.

“Let’s fighting love…”
