the assassins get outed

The project I jokingly referred to as Yahoo! Assasins in various posts on this weblog has been, well, outed - indeed, the project I’ve been working on has been Yahoo! 360°. Here’s the press release.

For those of you who attended the SXSW Conference this past couple of days and have heard me refer to it as the following, I sincerely apologize: Yahoo! Assassins, Yahoo! Ninjas, Yahoo! Taxidermy, Yahoo! Kitten Bashing. The project is set to be released on March 29th, and while I have dozens, no, hundreds of things I want to say, the PR release says it all, for now. The irony of all of this, of course, is that if the PR release was released 24 hours sooner, I would have been able to talk about it on my Decentralized Social Networks panel at the conference.

Meh!

Now, if you excuse me, I must go back to my regular routine of chain smoking, coding, not-sleeping and the regular what-not.

Soooo… It’s Yahoo! MySpace. Is that it?!

Damn. It’s such a let down from the expectations of Yahoo! Ninjas…

koopa: A decentralized social network is basically what you make of it. Now, if that’s what you’re bringing to the table .. ;-)

I’m interested to see details on the moblogging portion. So far all the free solutions I’ve found are sketchy at best.

Wait, you mean there’s no “Yahoo! Taxidermy”?

Press release has a typo:
“Yahoo! contact management — Easily manage contracts and stay in touch with friends”
I don’t suppose Yahoo needs any editors?

I read about 360 yesterday. Immediately took a wild guess this was your Assasins project. I’m either coming down with a cold or ESP…

This is a great, next logical step… this could be the first thing I’ve seen that could get me to quit spending so much time building my own site - it does almost everything I’d want to do, and many things I currently can’t do… now, I just need to be able to share home movies… hopefully that’s coming…

Great stuff, I can’t wait to play with it!!

” Available March 29 through an invitation-only beta…” can I pull a gmail and ask for an invite from someone who works there? i.e. you?

Completely off the record - you should have heard the names Yahoo 360 was almost called.

Be very, very grateful. If you read the AP report, you’ll learn that our codename was “Mingle.” Yahoo! Mingle. Sounds like I should be in a smoking jacket, holding a martini.
