the eagle as landed, i repeat, the eagle has landed

Yahoo 360° - the project I’ve been working on for the past six months - is live, in beta. You can view my 360° profile and blog as well.

And now, a mini-faq:

  1. So, uhm, does that mean you’re going to be ditching LYD for Yahoo! 360?

No. LYD will still be a place for general wackiness, while my 360 site will be geared more towards quips or photographs - slightly more than a mini-blog, slightly less than a regular LYD entry.

Besides, Yahoo! 360 isn’t designed for semi-pro bloggers; it’s designed more for casual users who want to post content towards family and friends - think LiveJournal or Xanga. As to why it’s called a “Blog” and not a “Journal,” well… I’m a web developer.

  2. What? You can’t [INSERT FUNCTIONALITY] to your blog? This is the worst system ever. EVAR!!

Dude, we’re in beta. It’s going to lack some functionality and it’s going to have some bugs, as with any new product that’s in beta. I’ll be the first person to admit that I’m a sensative soul (stop snickering) and it’s going to take some time to get thick-skinned to some of the knee-jerk responses on Technocrati, but… we’re working on it.

  3. It’s 3am. Get some sleep.

    Yes. Yes I should.

Quick feedback: Same with the new “Groups” design. I don’t really like the serif font for the content area. They hurt my eyes! The mix of serif and san-serif is very annoying.

Remember kids: san-serif for screens, serif for prints.

ARGH! I want to use my time belt to go back and kill whoever it was that first decided that “Next” should link to the emails and posts that came before the ones you are currently looking at, and “Prev” should link to the newer ones. If I could only find out who it was.

Any hints when you’re going to start inviting people as beta testere? Or is there going to be some evil gmail like ploy where yahoo takes 8 months to send me an invite? This sounds really cool.

Looks good, but it sure would be nice to find an invite in my email box.

Me: …casual user who wants to post content towards family and friends…

You: …teh LYD hookerupper…

I don’t want to be the last kid on the block with 360. It’s still difficult to talk about the Gmail conspiracy that was clearly against me in 2004.

I feel like you’re talking to me when I see the “yahoo 360 team” tagline. kinda creepy. the ghost of ernie’s code.

think about it… a little bit of you is flowing through all these people you know’s computers RIGHT now.

now put that into the perspective of the bears article. jeebus.

“The email address you entered is invalid. Your email address must contain no spaces, must contain an @ sign, and must have a domain with a period in it. You know! Like this: juan@yahoo.com

For whatever reason, I can totally see you saying this.
