the go game
I usually don’t plug stuff, but if you are in the Bay Area, have $25 and a sense of adventure, The Go Game is having another community game in Palo Alto on May 31st.
For those that haven’t heard of The Go Game, it’s a bizarre mix between a digital photo scavenger hunt, Mission Impossible, The Amazing Race and a self-inflected humiliation ritual. You’re split up into teams, given a cellphone and a digital camera, and “missions” are given to the team via the cellphone. Do the missions, get the points, most points wins, yadda yadda yadda.
Sometimes, the missions involve something relatively simple: answer a trivia question, run to a famous landmark and punch in the name of the cross-street.
Other missions are a little bit more… interesting, as you can tell from the photo on your right. (That’s silly-string, by the way. Not vomit. Or anything else. Pervs.) I will admit though — it’s kinda fun running around a high-tourist area drenched in silly-string, while Italian and Japanese tourists aren’t quite sure whether to stare or ignore, quietly assuming to themselves that all Californians are clinically insane. (We are.)
The SF Chronicle does a better job explaining the game than I ever could. I’m already on a team, but get a friend or two and sign up! Should be fun.
