The Thing About Dating, Part 2

(Hmmm. Let’s see how much I can write about him without actually writing about him.)

He’s been insisting on paying for every single dinner we’ve gone out for. All of them. Even when I insist on paying for it, he talks the waitress into giving back my credit card and replacing it with his own. I shouldn’t be complaining, right? But it’s something I’m not used to, and it sets up a weird dynamic that doesn’t happen in straight couples: Is he paying for meals just to be nice? Is he trying to set up this weird sugar daddy dynamic? (In case you’re wondering, he’s older than me, but not that much older.) He doesn’t think I’m dating him just so I can get free meals, right? He says I’ll eventually be able to pay for some of this food, where it will most likely set up this situation:

Guy I’m Dating: OK, I’ve paid for enough of your meals. You’re getting the bill this time.
Ernie: No problem.
Waiter: And what would you gentlemen like to have this evening?
GID: (reading menu) I’ll have the lobster. Stuffed with diamonds.
Ernie: Girl, we need to talk.
