A weblog by Ernie Hsiung

I’ve been voted off the island. Why do I say this? Because the newest casualty of the dot-com layoff madness is… me.

After surviving around 5 or 6 rounds of layoffs, the director of the group I work for rounded up all the web developers for a meeting in his office, and we were told that our jobs would be dissolved effective March 16th. There were rumors that some of us would be working in the San Francisco office as an alternative. Nope. Nada. Our jobs are ix-nayed.

Ken got laid off too, effective immediately. Which blows, because now he can’t slack at work to update his weblog. (Hell, I’ll say it. What are they going to do, fire him?) Ah well. Hey Ken, you can always update your weblog from my house, buddy! Oh wait, you don’t have internet access at home. Guess he’ll never read this.

So what now? Honestly, I don’t know. My last day at work will be on March 9th instead of the 16th, because I’m going down to Texas for the SxSW conference. And when I come back? Who knows. I’ll rest. I’ll move on. I’ll find a job. Anyone willing to lend a hand? But for today, and today only, I’ll feel sorry for myself.

*sigh* Maybe I’ll call marchFIRST marchSIXTEENTH, for now on. Or maybe marchTWOHUNDREDANDSIXTEENTH, for their profit ranking. (Thanks for the stats, Mike.)
