LJ was what started me on blogging. I still use it for stuff I don’t want immediately accessible, such as that incident with the tree…and the sheep.

So, are you going to cough up your user name, or are we having an e-scavenger hunt?

The LJ Advisory elections are ridiculous. I was going to post about LJ United, but someone beat me to it. AND, they said everything I would say, but they put a positive spin on it. I think the whole thing is a joke, and people are taking it WAY too seriously.

"Sure, it’s for an Advisory position but for all you know, people are going to treat this as a shot to be LiveJournal Supreme Being of the Universe." Yeah, I saw this coming too. That's why I created LJ United, a community that's trying to stand for serious issues, create a unified, diverse group of supporters, ideally unify the serious candidates so that they aren't overwhelmed by the popular yet freakish ones, and actually do the job like it could potentially help maintain the rights of LJ's members. Chances are good that any beauty contest winner for this position would have zero pull with the powers-that-be, specifically because they'd be incapable of influencing the rest of the advisory board and the management of LJ/SUP with relevant data, better ideas on how to approach issues, etc. But the thing is, there are quite a few serious users of LJ who don't want to be at the mercy of the more dramatic members of the community... and we're reaching out to them. Former LJ developers, longtime members, people who are prominent community admins on LJ, etc. We recently endorsed , who is quite thoughtful and good on the issues. Hopefully we'll build up enough support to get her appointed. So, yes... there will be drama, but we hope to be able to get a grasp on it and do something useful with an otherwise weak advisory position anyway. As LJ's former business guy from back in the early, noncorporate days of the site, I actually know a few people on the advisory board, so I think we could make a few allies there and at least make it so that if LJ/SUP overrides the advice given to them, there will be a very real price paid in bad PR. So maybe, if we get enough support, it will be a lot more boring than you'd think!

LJ comes to us all eventually. I avoided it forever…until last year. The ease of the friend’s lock is too tempting.

It also means I only whine to those who have nothing better to read. I’m also ignoring the LJ election thing. Despite a paid account, I am only about my own drama.
