yahoo photos

So, my project at work — Yahoo! Photos — finally launched today. Now you understand the previous reference of running through sunflowers — I’ve been staring at nothing but images of sunflowers, puppies and babies for the past three months. It’s like living in a feminine hygeine commercial. (And the hygeine commercial serves free espresso drinks to all employees.)

I was going to write up a big, technical self-evaluation, but I don’t feel like being verbally ripped apart by CSS gurus at this very second. Instead, I will post the following instant message snippet:

WebDev #3: did photos launch today?
Ernie: yeah - it should be up now
WebDev #3: Congrats
Ernie: :)
WebDev #3: Now pack up your stuff, we don’t need you anymore
Ernie: :(

[update: she was joking. knock on wood.]

Sorry about the job. I’m sure (hope) you’ll find something real soon.

You’re kidding, right? I sure hope so!

Without giving out too many details, I think she’s kidding about my contract being over. More updates about that situation later.

Laid off?! That would be SO wrong! Especially around Christmas! Maybe it’s revenge for winning the i-pod?

It looks like a good tool without the usual clunky design I’m used to from Yahoo pages. Good job. They should definitely keep you around. Hear me, Yahoo?

Have that not-so-fresh feeling?
Try new Ernie’s Yahoo! PortfolioŽ!

(pause for laughter)

It is refreshing to see a page without something popping up, flashing, blinking, trying to sell me something via banner ads, or needing a plug-in…

little. yellow. unemployed.
(Doesn’t that sound ridiculous,
Oh ye Yahoo! bigwigs?)

My ever growing hentai collection looks even better against the no long garish page design. Thank you.

Does that guy have a hole in his sock? What are they laughing at anyway?

Straight people scare me.

You guys are so cute. Ernie’s not going anywhere. Just because the project’s launched doesn’t mean they’re done with him.

whee… it must be offensive. WebSense is blocking it

Ern, do you still have to be a yahoo plus member (or whatever it’s called) to share photos? I remember for a while people couldn’t see full sized versions of the pictures unless you subscribed, or specifically added them to be able to view that folder.

Vincent: To share photos, you don’t have to be a Y!+ member. That’s not the same as downloading the full size of the image, which is only available for SBC/Yahoo or Yahoo Plus subscribers (don’t quote me on that)

Yeah. But it kind of sucks that unless you subscribe, people can only see little bitty thumbnails. I mean, I can’t complain, it is free… but ah well.

Hey Vincent - they’re not necessarily itty-bitty thumbnails - if you upload a high rez photo, you see the photo at 480px wide if you choose the photo individually.

As far not making the photos downloadable for regular yahoo customers, well, I got theories on why they did that, but I’m not at liberty to say in a public forum.

uh, yea…that hole in the sock is a bit disturbing. You’d think that yahoo’s prop manager could find some room in the budget for a new pair of white gap crew socks…Tlike $3.99!
However, that baby in the snowsuit is so darn cute!

Yahoo photos looks great! Looking forward to trying it. Been looking for a convenient way to share large quantities of photos with family for a while (rather than saving them on Walmart servers).

Cool. But Y! does irritate me a bit in that you have to re-login (”verify your password”) on about every other page. Wish they had options to set to keep you logged in longer, etc.

well, i can’t seem to get to any of my old subfolders since the switch, so i basically will have to re-scan all those photos unless you can come to the rescue. the help link isn’t helping at all.
